Who we are
San Antonio Retort operates https://sanantonioretort.com (“the website,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how information is handled when you visit the website, read or post comments, or contact us.
Website operator: San Antonio Retort
Privacy contact: Contact the San Antonio Retort domain registrant through Hostinger
Information handled when you visit
When you load a page, our website and hosting provider may process your IP address, browser and device details, the pages you request, the referring address, search terms, and access times. We use these records to deliver pages, keep the site running well, fix errors, and protect it against abuse.
If you contact us, we receive your contact details, your message, and anything else you choose to send. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless your inquiry requires it.
Some embedded services, such as Disqus and Google Analytics, collect information directly. Those services are described below.
How we use information
We use information to run and maintain the website, answer inquiries and privacy requests, manage comments, and investigate spam or security problems. We also use it to meet our legal obligations.
In addition, we review messages that contain news tips or requests for corrections. San Antonio Retort examines local news coverage, so we welcome tips about errors or omissions in that coverage.
However, sending a tip does not create a confidential source arrangement. If confidentiality matters to you, agree on a secure way to communicate with us before you share identifying or sensitive details.
Comments and Disqus
We use Disqus for comments. Your public comments, display name, and public profile may be visible to other readers and may be accessible outside this website. For that reason, do not post private information you do not want made public.
When the comment section loads, Disqus may receive technical information and details about your activity, even if you never post a comment. Disqus uses cookies and similar technologies. Depending on its settings and your choices, Disqus may also process information for advertising or marketing.
On our article pages, the comment section also loads code from services connected to Disqus. These currently include LiveIntent (liadm.com), an advertising and audience-identity company, and VigLink (viglink.com), an affiliate-link service. As a result, these companies may receive information such as your IP address, browser details, and cookies. Their own policies govern that processing.
We can see information that Disqus makes available to site owners, which we use to manage discussions and address abuse. Disqus manages its own accounts and any third-party sign-in you choose. We never receive the password for your Google, Facebook, or other sign-in account.
For details and available controls, see:
- Disqus Privacy Policy
- Disqus Cookies and Data Recipients
- Disqus Data Sharing Settings
- LiveIntent Privacy Policy
- Sovrn Privacy Policy (Sovrn operates VigLink)
Google Analytics and Search Console
We use Google Analytics 4, connected through Site Kit by Google, to understand how readers use the website. Analytics can collect the pages you view, your interactions, referring websites, browser and device details, and approximate location. It uses cookies and similar identifiers, and it sends information about your visit to Google. We use the resulting reports to measure readership and improve our content.
Google Analytics 4 uses your IP address to estimate your location and then discards the address before storing the data. Even so, this does not make all Analytics data anonymous, and other services may still process IP addresses. Retention depends on our Analytics settings and on Google’s practices.
We also use Google Search Console to see how the website performs in Google Search. Search Console provides reports from Google and does not add a visitor-tracking script to this website.
For details, see the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on in supported browsers. That add-on stops Google Analytics only; it does not block other services or cookies.
Hosting, fonts, and images
The website runs on WordPress and is hosted by Hostinger. Our hosting and caching services process the information needed to deliver pages, maintain the servers, and support security. See Hostinger’s Privacy Policy for its practices.
The website also loads Hostinger Reach scripts. When they load, your browser connects to Hostinger’s servers, which can reveal technical details such as your IP address and browser information. If you ever submit information through a Reach-powered feature, Hostinger processes that information as well.
In addition, our pages load fonts from Google Fonts and profile images from Gravatar, a service run by Automattic. Because your browser requests these files directly, Google and Automattic can receive your IP address and browser details. See the Google Privacy Policy and the Automattic Privacy Policy.
Finally, authorized administrators use tools for maintenance and publishing. Their access to website information is limited to the permissions those tools need.
Cookies and similar technologies
WordPress and third-party services may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies. They use them to sign in administrators, remember settings, and run embedded features. Third-party services may also use them for measurement, advertising, or personalization, as their own policies describe.
You can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings. Keep in mind that blocking cookies or scripts may stop comments and other features from working. Browser settings also may not stop every kind of collection, such as the technical details your browser sends when it connects to a service.
For Disqus and its partners, use the privacy controls those companies provide. For information we control, contact us. This policy is a disclosure; it does not itself turn tracking on or off.
Sharing and third-party policies
Hosting companies and other service providers may process information we need to run the website. Public comments are, by design, visible to the public. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or when it is reasonably necessary to address security incidents, illegal activity, or legal claims.
Embedded services may collect information directly and use it for their own purposes under their own policies. Those policies add to this one; they do not replace our responsibility for information we process or for the services we place on our website. Links to other websites do not mean we control those sites’ data practices.
Retention and security
How long we keep information depends on what it is and why we have it. For example, we may keep messages while an inquiry, correction request, or dispute remains open. Technical records follow the retention settings of the services that hold them.
Comments may stay public until they are removed. Even then, copies may remain in backups, search results, or other people’s records.
We limit access to the people and services that need it to run the website. Still, no method of sending or storing data over the internet is completely secure.
Your choices and requests
Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal information. You may also be able to object to or limit certain processing. Some laws add rights about targeted advertising, the sale or sharing of data, or withdrawing consent.
To make a request about information we control, use the Hostinger domain registrant contact form for sanantonioretort.com. Please say that your message is a San Antonio Retort privacy request. Hostinger processes what you enter in that form under its own privacy policy.
We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request. In addition, legal exceptions may allow us to keep some information, such as records we must keep by law or material tied to protected journalistic work.
For your Disqus account and Disqus’s own processing, use Disqus’s privacy controls or contact Disqus directly. We will handle information under our control separately. Note that removing a comment from this website may not remove copies kept elsewhere.
Children
San Antonio Retort is a general-audience news and commentary website. It is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us so we can look into it and take appropriate action. Third-party services set their own age rules.
International processing
Our service providers may process or store information in countries other than yours. Their policies and contracts describe how they handle international processing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the website or its services change. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Where the law requires it, we will also give additional notice or ask for consent. Continuing to browse does not count as consent where consent is required.
